20. See Seagull
Chekhov another one. NYU Skirball Center, July 12 to 31.
The experimental group Elevator Repair Service brings its everything-and-the-kitchen-sink style to Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull. In this mash-up of Chekhov’s drama and a “real” conversation, ERS performers both are and are not their characters. The original play contains both a celebration and a critique of avant-gardism, and if you think these Dada-aware mischief-makers aren’t going to add their own wry commentary, I’ve got a bird to sell you.
