Anne Rice’s genre-defining novel is long due for a revamp, and this series has made an array of promising changes, like reframing Louis (Jacob Anderson) as a Black man living with his well-todo family in New Orleans. And if Eric Bogosian’s beleaguered delivery of “So, how long have you

been dead?” is any indication, the series will have enough self-awareness to puncture its stuffy air of Gothic melancholy, to boot.
