The Criticism

Over her career, Hoover has been criticized by readers who feel her work excuses morally questionable behavior. In 2017, YouTuber Whitney Atkinson left a one-star review of Hoover’s book November 9 that went viral on Goodreads. Her biggest complaint: the scene in which the male love interest continues touching a drunk woman after she tells him to stop. A reprint of the book removes a line where that woman says “Stop” during their sexual encounter.
