Soho is blue over Tiffany

-

Tiffany & Co. is coming to SoHo — but neighbors are seeing red, not Tiffany blue.

Residents of 104 Wooster St. say contractors for the legendary jewelry store have been making their lives hell — doing construction work they’re not allowed to do, and at hours they’re not allowed to work.

The “major demolition and construction project” has “imposed, and is continuing to impose, an intolerable burden on the residential occupants of the condominium building, including excessive noise both during and outside of normal construction hours, noxious fumes, dust, vibrations, fire alarms, [and] loss of water,” the residents say in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

Among other complaints, the residents say the store has undertaken work it wasn’t supposed to, namely knocking down part of a wall and widening a doorway. And when board members and their architect went to inspect the work, the store barred them from entering, the suit says.

The noise and dust problem is so bad that a couple who had been living on the second floor with their baby have had to move out, the suit says. The board is seeking a court order blocking the store from doing any more improper work, plus $250,000 in damages.

A Tiffany representative said, “The complaint is without merit.”
