Fighting Irish run wild to hold off stingy BYU

Theo Riddick pounded his way for a careerhigh 143 yards and Cierre Wood added 114 yards as fifthranke­d Notre Dame overpowere­d a Brigham Young defense that entered the game third in the nation against the run, earning a 1714 victory yesterday in South Bend, Ind.

Riddick had runs of 55 and 27, the two longest rushes of his career, to pace Notre Dame (70), which is off to its best start in a decade and has a big game ahead against No. 10 Oklahoma next week. The Cougars (44) fell to 03 on the road as they surrendere­d a seasonhigh 270 yards rushing.

Alabama 44, Tennessee 13

In Knoxville, Tenn., Amari Cooper caught two of A.J. McCarron’s four touchdown passes as No. 1 Alabama (70, 40 SEC) defeated Ten nessee (34, 04) for its sixth consecutiv­e victory over the Volunteers.

Florida 44, South Carolina 11

In Gainesvill­e, Fla., Jeff Driskel threw four touchdown passes — three of them after turnovers — and No. 3 Florida (70, 60 SEC) matched its win total from last season with a drubbing of No. 9 South Carolina (62, 42).

The Gators, who avenged consecutiv­e losses to the Gamecocks, can clinch a spot in the SEC championsh­ip game by beating No. 13 Georgia next week in nearby Jacksonvil­le, Fla.

LSU 24, Texas A&M 19

In College Station, Texas, Jeremy Hill rushed for a careerhigh 127 yards and a touchdown, and No. 6 LSU (71, 31 SEC) rallied from an early deficit to beat No. 20 Texas A&M (52, 22), scoring 21 points off four Aggies turnovers.

Ohio St. 29, Purdue 22 (OT)

In Columbus, Ohio, backup quarterbac­k Kenny Guiton came off the bench in relief of an injured Braxton Miller to lead touchdown drives in the final minute of regulation and in overtime for No. 7 Ohio State (80, 40 Big Ten), with Carlos Hyde scoring on a 1yard run to clinch the Buckeyes’ victory over Purdue (34, 03).

Oklahoma 52, Kansas 7

In Norman, Okla., Landry Jones threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 10 Oklahoma (51, 31 Big 12) scored on a kickoff return and a punt return in the same game for the first time in school history

while clobbering Kansas (16, 04).

USC 50, Colorado 6

In Los Angeles, Matt Barkley threw for 298 yards and six touchdowns while setting Southern California’s career record for TD passes, and Robert Woods set a pair of school marks himself to lead the 11thranked Trojans (61, 41 Pac12) over Colorado (16, 13).

Louisville 27, South Florida 25

In Louisville, Ky., Teddy Bridgewate­r threw an 11yard touchdown pass to Eli Rogers with 1:35 left, and the No. 16 Cardinals (70, 20 Big East), who allowed a seasonhigh 197 yards rushing, edged South Florida (25, 03) for their best start since 2006.

Florida State 33, Miami 20

In Miami, EJ Manuel threw for 229 yards, Devonta Freeman ran for a pair of fourthquar­ter touchdowns and No. 12 Florida State (71, 41 ACC) overcame a shaky start to beat Miami (44, 32).

Toledo 29, Cincinnati 23

In Toledo, Ohio, Bernard Reedy scored on a 91yard kickoff return to lead the Rockets (61) over No. 21 Cincinnati (51). The Bearcats led just once, late in the third quarter, but Reedy quickly erased that with his third special teams touchdown in three weeks, putting Toledo up 2620.
