Through The Binocs

In the 99th running of the Grade 3, $150,000 Fall Highweight — Aqueduct’s traditional Thanksgiving Day feature — This Ones for Phil, packing 130 pounds, shaped up as the lone speed and was bet that way, drifting from 45 to 65 in his first start since May for Rick Dutrow Jr. The 6yearold gelding quickly cruised to a daylight lead under Ramon Dominguez and sailed along through splits of :22.57 and :44.84, chased by 21 Caixa Eletronica and 41Willy Beamin, who spit the bit when he bled on the far turn.

This Ones for Phil was still clear when he straightened into the stretch, but under an energetic ride by Javier Castellano, Caixa Eletronica, carrying 133 pounds, closed the gap, collared This Ones for Phil inside the final furlong and drew clear, the six furlongs in 1:08.69. The Fall Highweight marked the 60th start for the 7yearold son of the hardknocking claiming horse Arromanches (who himself ran 78 times), and it was the 19th win for Caixa Eletronica, seven of those coming since he was claimed by Mike Repole for $62,500 in March 2011 and turned over to Todd Pletcher.

SECOND RACE: In two starts since returning from an 11month layoff for the suddenly hot trainer Jena Antonucci, the 3yearold NYbred filly Silver Prize flashed speed to the stretch, then backed up badly going long on grass at 351 and 751. A relatively wellbet 111 here going turf to dirt, Silver Prize rallied wide around the turn under apprentice Jose Ortiz to hook 52 Fujiana, Eddie Castro up, at the top of the stretch. In a long slugfest, Fujiana clung desperately to the lead until the final yards, when Silver Prize surged past her to get up late.

FIFTH RACE: Missile Motor, a 9yearold gelding making his 83rd start, was pulled up heading into the turn by Julio Pezua and vanned off. Xrays proved negative; he apparently suffered a softtissue injury to his right front and is being monitored.
