Cory died of drugs & booze

- David K. Li

“Glee” costar Cory Monteith died from a deadly combination of heroin and booze, Canadian authorities said yesterday.

British Columbia Coroners Services ruled that foul play had nothing to do with Monteith’s death in Vancouver Saturday.

“We do now have a cause . . . in the tragic death of Cory Monteith and that cause . . . was a mixeddrug toxicity and it involved heroin, primarily, and also involved alcohol,” said Barb McLintock, a spokeswoman for the services.

An autopsy was performed Monday and authorities expedited the results of the toxicology tests, which often take weeks to complete.

“There’s absolutely nothing, at this point, no evidence, to suggest this is anything other than the most sad and tragic accident,” McLintock said.

Monteith was visiting friends in Vancouver when he checked into the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on July 6.

When he didn’t show up at the front desk to check out Saturday, hotel employees went to his room where they found his body.

“Mr. Monteith’s family is of course aware of the circumstances of his death,” McLintock said.

“We do express our most heartfelt condolences to them and all of Mr. Monteith’ s friends, of whom we know we have a lot of in British Columbia.”

Monteith, who dated “Glee” costar Lea Michele, was open about his past struggles with drugs and booze. The actor played singing quarterback Finn Hudson on the popular Fox show.
