Extra jail for mob murderer

-

A Gambino capo already facing life in prison for the 1981 murders of two Queens bar owners was sentenced to 30 months behind bars Tuesday after copping a plea to separate racketeering and extortion charges.

Bartolomeo “Bobby Glasses” Vernace, 64, remained silent as Manhattan federal Judge Richard Berman handed out the sentence that also required Vernace to fork over to the government some properties he had acquired through his earnings from the mob.

He had copped a plea in October to using extortion tactics from the early 1980s to 2010 to help the mob collect profits off illegal poker games and sports books throughout the city.

Vernace is already credited with 30 months’ time served, but remains in custody because he was convicted last year for a series of charges that include participating in the murders of bar owners John D’Angnese and Richard Godkin.

He faces life in prison when he’s sentenced April 4 in Brooklyn federal court for that crime.

His lawyer, Charles Carnesi, said afterward that his client has a variety of severe health issues.

Vernace had beaten the two murder charges in state court in 1998. The killings were in response to an argument at the Shamrock Bar on Jamaica Avenue that broke out after a drink spilled on a wiseguy’s girlfriend. Rich Calder
