TRAINING DAY

QB Watch

Geno Smith and Michael Vick went against the scout-team defense at just threequarters speed. Unlike Monday, Vick got a few reps with the first team, and coach Rex Ryan said he would get at least one series with the starters in Thursday’s preseason opener.

New meat

It’s hard to take Eric Decker’s 40-yard TD catch against rookie Brandon Dixon seriously. The best thing from Tuesday’s practice was just knowing the Jets are getting out of Cortland. They’re itching to get a chance to hit somebody in a different uniform.

Butterfingers

It’s great that the Jets are trying to get RB Chris Johnson into the passing game. It’s not so great that the running back wasn’t holding onto the ball, letting a pass go through his hands then dropping one right in his bread basket on the next play.

Caught my eye

Starting CB Dimitri Patterson was beaten by multiple receivers. “It looked like he wasn’t doing much, because he gave up a bunch of completions,” Ryan said.

Medical report

Rookie S Calvin Pryor (concussion) has been cleared but Ryan said he is unlikely to play vs. the Colts. WR Jeremy Kerley (illness) missed practice, but should play. RB Bilal Powell and CB Johnny Patrick (hamstring) both exceeded Ryan’s expectations in Tuesday’s returns and could play. Rookie WR Shaq Evans (shoulder) could go on season-ending IR, while OT Brent Qvale’s head injury was confirmed as a concussion.
