U are what u tweet, NYers

New Yorkers are more obsessed with brunch than any other city — no eggs-aggerating!

The most popular foods in the Big Apple are bacon, eggs Benedict and bloody marys, a Twittercentric new study claims.

Using data from millions of tweets, University of Arizona researchers broke down the top food terms in American cities and states — and found New Yorkers can’t seem to stop buzzing about brunch, often tweeting about #BottomlessMimosas, #eggs and the restaurant #Sarabeths.

“#Vegetarian food is indicative of San Francisco and #Brunch is representative of New York,” researchers note in the report.

By contrast, tacos are a huge hit Austin, BBQ is big in Chicago, and folks in Phoenix are hot on wine.

In a lessthantasty twist, the “specialty foods” most popular in New York state are prunes — unlike New Jersey, which prefers clams, and Connecticut, which loves its lentils, researchers said.

On the West Coast, caviar is most popular in California, capers are a hit in Oregon and halibut is a big winner in Washington state.

Tamales were most popular in Arizona, North Dakota residents tweeted most often about flan, and venison was big in Michigan. Texas was most obsessed with brisket.

Nationwide, dinner was the most tweetedabout meal, followed by breakfast, lunch, brunch and snacks.

In general, the Northeast tweeted most about booze and roasted meats, while the West was most obsessed with Mexican food and vegan eats.

Researchers reviewed a total of 83,670 foodrelated tweets in New York.

The study, posted on ArXiv.com, aimed to “investigate the predictive power behind the language of food on social media.”
