Mother’s salt ‘slay’ shocker

-

A mom accused of secretly poisoning her 5yearold son to death with salt — while chronicling his illness online — had pumped toxins into him at a Westchester County hospital even after a doctor grew suspicious and confronted her, a report suggests.

Lacey Spears administered lethal doses of sodium to Garnett at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, suggests the child fatality report by State Children and Family Services.

The boy had been transferred from another hospital, where Spears was also allegedly poisoning him.

When he arrived at Maria Fareri on Jan. 19, the doctor noticed his condition and told Spears his sodium level “was metabolically impossible,” source said.

The staff called the state’s childabuse hot line, which prompted a police probe, and decided to keep an eye on Spears.

Nevertheless, she still got more salt into the boy through a feeding tube, says the report, obtained by The Journal News.

Garnett died at the hospital in January.

Spears, 26, who documented his demise over Facebook, has been charged with seconddegree murder and manslaughter.

Physicians have suspected Spears suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder in which a parent intentionally harms a child. Shawn Cohen
