POLICE ID FIRST ‘ALLEGED’ BASHER
Tips pour in from an eager public
Cops have identified one of the seven protesters wanted for attacking two lieutenants on the Brooklyn Bridge — but still need the public’s help to track down the anarchists, sources said Wednesday.
“We’re making very good progress,” one source told The Post.
The NYPD already knows the name of one suspect in the Saturday beating — which Mayor de Blasio had called “alleged” — during a protest over the Eric Garner grandjury decision, and they’re “close to identifying” other members of the mob that attacked Lt. Patrick Sullivan and Lt. Philip Chan, sources said.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton on Tuesday released photos of the seven suspects — and the NYPD was immediately flooded with tips from people eager to help.
“Calls came pouring in right away with people saying they know who this one is, they know who that one is,” a lawenforcement source said.
The Detectives’ Endowment Association has added $2,500 to the $12,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
“It’s important that these individuals be brought to justice. If they’re allowed to evade justice, that will be an incentive for others to assault other members of the NYPD as the protests continue,” association president Mike Palladino said in a statement.
The brawl came as cops tried to arrest CUNY Professor Eric Linsker for attempting to throw a hefty metal garbage can at other officers.
He is out on bail and welcome back in the classroom, officials said.
Linsker is scheduled to teach two English courses at Queens College next semester.
“[Eric] Linsker was previously notified that he would be reappointed as an adjunct for the spring 2015 semester,” Queens College spokeswoman Leanna Yip said in a statement.
“The college will review all of the facts as they become available in order to decide if any additional action is warranted.”
“We support the exercise of freedom of speech while deploring violence of any kind,” the statement read.
n If you know the identity of any of these suspects, phone (800) 577TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
