Officers riled by Viv’s pct. pep talk
Copbashing City Council Speaker Melissa MarkViverito demanded that her local precinct boss let her address the roll call Wednesday — and she preached to the officers about community relations, sources told The Post.
Cops at the 23rd Precinct station house — many of whom signed a Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association’s petition that would ban her and Mayor de Blasio from police funerals — bit their tongues as she spoke to them at around 7 a.m., the sources said.
“I appreciate what you do. I know times are tough right now,” MarkViverito told the disinterested group of about 20 officers. “I live in the area [East Harlem]. I have a great relationship with the 23rd and 25th Precinct and PSA 5,” she insisted.
MarkViverito arranged the visit by calling the precinct boss, Deputy Inspector Eric Pagan, on Tuesday night and telling him she was coming to roll call, the sources said.
Pagan, who was scheduled to be off, alerted his supervisors and had to come in to show her around, they said.
MarkViverito helms a City Council that has introduced bills aimed at handcuffing cops, while leading antiNYPD demonstrations.
Her sudden show of support only made the officers angry, knowing, “she’s anticop and she’s made anticop statements in the past,” a source said.
MarkViverito was the only one who left the station house happy, tweeting, “Thanx for all you do @NYPD23Pct & for welcoming me to 7AM roll call. & impressed by new live scan technology in pct.”
It was a rare move for MarkViverito to speak at a precinct roll call, the sources said.
“It’s very unusual for her to speak to or address the troops,” said a source.
