Inflaming Ferguson

-

Now we have two more cops who were ambushed because of their uniforms. This time, the attack occurred in troubled Ferguson, Mo., where two officers were both shot in front of the police station. The shootings came less than a week after we learned that the activists’ narrative about the death of black teenager Michael Brown at the hands of a white police officer was false. A new Justice Department report confirms that the account given by Officer Darren Wilson was largely true. Meaning the whole “hands off, don’t shoot” narrative promoted by activists and the media was false from the start.

By contrast, the two wounded Ferguson cops didn’t even have time to get their hands up.

Let’s stipulate up front that we do not believe US Attorney General Eric Holder has blood on his hands here.

But it is worth asking whether his com ments alleging police racism and the spiteful report he produced on his way out the door to justify them (based largely on traffic stops) were really the right things to be saying at a time when this troubled community is on edge.

He’s not alone. Long before the facts were in, others traveled far and wide to Ferguson to embrace the “hands up” narrative for their own purposes. Indeed, this week’s protesters continued the chant even after Holder’s own Justice Department had confirmed it to be a falsehood.

The good news is, the people of Ferguson will not be burying two police officers. The sad news is that even these cop shootings likely won’t do anything to get liberal activists and politicians to rethink their instinct to take the anticop side in any dispute — regardless of the facts or the consequences for the affected communities.
