Francesa snows us again, this time on Revis
LOST TAPES: Darrelle Revis’ return to the Jets became a nextday lock the moment on Monday that Mike Francesa dismissed reports Revis might come back. Authoritatively — as if he actually knew — Sitting Bull said the teams Revis was considering didn’t include the Jets. Francesa was just getting started. He was dead wrong all week about NFL player moves.
By the way, I won’t yet concede that Francesa finally got one right — he said last week’s snowstorm would be the last of the season — and I won’t until July.
In a week stained and strained by outrageous Bull Connor Era racism — that frat video from Oklahoma University — leave it to ESPN’s firststring windup clown, Stephen A. Smith, to diminish genuine racism with a reckless onair spew strongly suggesting that Eagles player moves were moti vated by head coach Chip Kelly’s disregard for “brothas.”
Naturally, nowhere in ESPN’s “breakitalldown” after Robert Morris’s upset NEC title win at St. Francis, was there talk or video of anything beyond slams and missed or made bombs. That explained it. Not a peep about how St. Francis, in a threepoint loss, was 9for22 from the foul line.
At first it seemed Ch. 7 News was reporting from St. Francis because it recognized and acted on a good local story — the school’s shot to make its first NCAA Tournament. But when it was noted that the game would be on ESPN — Ch. 7’s Disney Fatherland kin — the breeze became, shall we say, scented.
The Jets plan to bill the difference to those who purchased Revis Jets jerseys at a discount after his first departure.
