MLB: Cardinals breeze through win over Reds

Adam Wain wright out pitched Mike Leake, and Kolten Wong had a tiebreakin­g sacrifice in the eighth inning as the Cardinals beat the Reds 21 Sunday night in a game that lasted just 2 hours, 2 minutes, to finish a threegame sweep in St. Louis.

In Boston, Adam Jones went 4for5 with a threerun double and tworun homer to match his career high with five RBIs, carrying the Orioles past the Red Sox 83 .

In Washington, Stephen Strasburg allowed a run in 7 ¹ / ₃ innings and the Nationals used a threerun fifth inning for a 41 victory over the Phillies.

In Toronto, Jonny Gomes drove in four runs to back Shelby Miller, and the Braves beat the Blue Jays 52.

In Detroit, Yoenis Cespedes hit a grand slam and a tworun homer and former Yankee Shane Greene pitched seven impressive innings in another fine start to begin the season, helping the Tigers rout the White Sox 91.

In Chicago, Cubs newcome Jon Lester ( 02) gave up three runs and six hits in 5 ¹ / ₃ innings. He now has a 6.89 ERA after three starts. Kris Bryant, who made his major league debut on Friday, doubled and was hit by a pitch in going 1for3. He is 3for10 in three games for the Cubs.

In Kansas City, Mo., the Royals overcame five ejections to beat the Athletics 42 behind Kendrys Morales’ tiebreakin­g tworun double in a threerun eighth inning.

ETC.: Fla. football player arrested for robbery

A University of Florida redshirt freshman football player faces charges after a robbery at a Gainesvill­e apartment. Gainesvill­e Police said Jerald Christophe­r “J. C.” Jackson entered an acquaintan­ce’s apartment Saturday with two men. Police said Jackson left but the others stayed. One allegedly pulled out a gun, and police said they took two video game consoles and $ 382 fromthe apartment’s three residents.

In Bristol, Tenn., Matt Kenseth ended a 51race drought at rainsoaked Bristol Motor Speedway. The start was delayed nearly 90 minutes because of rain and the race was stopped three times. Kenseth crossed the finish line some nine hours after the race began.
