Press- shy Hill boots reporter

WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign got into another fight with the press Monday by barring the designated pool reporter from covering her in New Hampshire.

David Martosko, US political editor for Britain’s DailyMail.com, said Clinton’s campaign blocked him from entering an education event at a YMCA and from riding on the van designated for the media.

At the door of the Rochester event, Martosko identified himself as the print pooler for the day, but was told Clinton’s campaign had not approved him.

“No. You can’t come in,” a Secret Service agent said, according to Martosko.

Martosko was the chosen reporter for the print pool, a system set up by traveling journalists to share travel costs and coverage at events where space is limited.

Martosko said he was given various reasons for the ban.

One was that he’s part of the foreign press. Another was that he’s not part of the White House pool rotation.

Journalists were up in arms over the campaign’s latest attempt to control press coverage. “Memo to the Clinton campaign: pools control themselves,” tweeted Time magazine’s Zeke Miller.

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said the campaign is working with reporters on balancing the concerns of various outlets and finding a solution for who’s in the pool.
