‘ Genocidal’ leader on run
PRETORIA, South Africa — President Omar alBashir of Sudan fled South Africa on Monday despite a court’s ruling that he stay in the country so he can be tried on charges of genocide.
The International Criminal Court’s charges against alBashir stem from reported atrocities in the conflict in Darfur, in which 300,000 people were killed, according to UN figures.
AlBashir landed in his country’s capital on Monday evening.
