How Can ISIS Be Stopped?

THE ISSUE: The strategic mistakes that have led to ISIS’s successful march through Iraq and Syria.

Ralph Peters, as always, nails ISIS (“Why ISIS Is Winning,” PostScript, June 14). However, his analysis doesn’t go far enough.

For decades, I’ve told people that Islam moves in cycles. Every couple of hundred years, a reformist movement appears. It is usually defeated quickly and disappears.

Once in awhile, the Islamists possess better leadership, and the movement spreads. Around this time, they defeat a military force everyone thought was superior. You know, like the 450 trainers/ targets Obama just sent to Iraq.

They then grab a government, giving them legitimacy. They then yell “Allahu Akbar!” and draw swords and head west. You might want to get ready.

Peters leaves no doubt as to why serious military measures against ISIS have not been taken.

Obama is simply an unfit commanderinchief, as has been painfully obvious for quite some time.

Anyone with a shred of common sense and an ounce of courage would have carpetbombed Raqqa after the first American, James Foley, was beheaded.

I’d like to see Ralph Peters in a prominent position in the next administration. His wise strategic counsel would result in the demise of ISIS in relatively short order. David Rabinovitz
