Pol’s zero bills in 2 yrs.
A veteran legislator on the City Council hasn’t introduced a single bill since being reelected two years ago, according to records reviewed by The Post.
Inez Dickens, who on her Web site describes herself as a “tireless fighter” for her Harlem constituents, was the only one of the 51 council members to lay an egg when it came to proposing legislation since January 2014.
“Zero is not acceptable,” said Dick Dadey, director of the goodgovernment group Citizens Union.
“The role of a council member is to legislate, and part of that is suggesting bills for introduction.”
One Harlem political insider, who described Dickens’ lack of legislative output as “embarrassing,” said it’s even more egregious given that she’s running for reelection in September as a Democratic district leader.
Frances Escano, a spokeswoman for Dickens, said her boss was too busy trying to preserve affordable housing to draft any bills over the past 18 months.
“Although she hasn’t done a lot of legislation and resolutions . . . the councilwoman has done lots of things to ensure that affordable housing is allowed or is created in the district,” Escano said.
In 2013, The Post reported that Dickens racked up more than $ 265,000 in unpaid fines and taxes on four Harlem buildings that she owns.
