-

IN recent interviews, fun.’ s Nate Ruess has hinted at heartbreak and depression, but the best moments of his first solo album, “The Grand Romantic,” are about taking the pieces and heading skyward. “There’s beauty in every sin/ Every single black eye,” he sings hopefully, before building, with Beatles-style lushness, into a Broadway size anthem of hope. It’s sappy, but Ruess is so convincing you have to go with it.
