Bid to curb cars in parks
Driving through Prospect and Central parks will become harder under a plan Mayor de Blasio is expected to roll out Thursday, two sources told The Post.
The new restrictions include barring cars in northern Central Park and completely shutting West Drive in Prospect Park to traffic.
West Drive is now open to southbound traffic weekdays between 5 p. m. and 7 p. m. Advocates have been pushing to make both parks carfree for years, but Hizzoner’s plan doesn’t go that far.
Prospect Park’s East Drive and the 72nd Street transverse in Central Park will both stay open during rush hours.
The mayor’s office declined to comment on the plan, first reported by Capital New York.
