Colombia next for U. S.

- By BRIAN LEWIS

The U. S. Women’s National Team not only survived the socalled Group of Death at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but won it. The team’s reward? Around of 16 date with Colombia, and what appears to be a favorable path to the semifinals.

After finishing atop Group D, the U. S. will be heavy favorites against Colombia on Monday in Edmonton ( 8 p. m, Fox Sports 1).

The U. S. has routed its South American foe by identical 30 scores in their only two prior meetings. The U. S. drilled Colombia in group play of the 2011World Cup— then again in group play of the 2012 London Olympics.

Should the U. S. advance, it would play the China Cameroon winner in the quarterfinals.
