It’s setting up nicely
New addition Reed provides stability in seventh for Mets
ATLANTA — Addison Reed has ended the Mets’ drama concerning the seventh inning.
After months of instability in that setup role, the Mets appreciate the job Reed has done since arriving in waiver deal with the Diamondbacks two weeks ago.
The righthander entered Saturday’s action unscored upon in his seven appearances with the Mets.
“We had heard the last three weeks in Arizona he started picking it up,” manager Terry Collins said before the Mets faced the Braves. “But this is a lot better than what I expected. This guy is electric. He’s got good command, he is using his slider, using his changeup and he has been terrific.”
Bobby Parnell’s struggles in the setup role and Jenrry Mejia’s two suspensions this season for banned performance enhancing drugs had left the seventh inning largely in flux before Reed was acquired.
“We’ve got bullpen guys now to get us to the end, so it helps out,” Collins said.
Michael Cuddyer’s wrist is no longer an issue, according to Collins. The veteran outfielder made a pinchhitting appearance on Friday and singled — it was his first game action in nine days. He is expected to start Monday’s game against the Marlins.
Lucas Duda received a night off at first base. Collins had considered the idea off giving Duda a day off Sunday instead, but the manager plans to play his righthanded hitters and didn’t want Duda on the bench for successive days. ... David Wright will take a scheduled off day Sunday.
Jeurys Familia entered play needing one save to tie Billy Wagner for the thirdmost in a season in club history. Familia began the night with 39 saves.
