Late but great

BEING five or even 10 minutes late to a date might be universally acceptable, but what about if someone is almost a half-hour late? When Shaina, 29, met up with Phillip, 30, at Koa in Midtown, she was a whopping 25 minutes tardy. Lucky for her, Phillip had a book to keep him company— and an easy-going demeanor. She might not have been ontime, but time flew when the two were together.

Hesaid:

Shaina was more than 25 minutes late, and I was starting to wonder if I was being punked. Then, she arrived and apologized profusely, but it was fine. She was cute, had nice style and smelled really good.

Shaina and I had no problem finding our rhythm and covered a number of different topics. We talked about our shared love for brunch, and I learned about her policy against leftovers, which was quirky but funny.

Before we dug into our meal at Koa, I told her how I loved spicy food. We both ordered the signature soba and I requested mine to be spicy. While eating, a pepper flake lodged itself in my throat and my mouth was on fire. Needless to say, Shaina didn’t get to see me at mybest in that moment but we had a good laugh about it.

I plan on seeing Shaina again. Anyone who can hold their own in a debate about onesies versus Snuggies is worth getting to know.

Considering I was 25 minutes late, Phil was welcoming. I also noticed he was reading a book (“The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins); it’s nice to know guys still read.

Phil and I talked about a lot of different things. Our conversation jumped from Thanksgiving meals to dissociative identity disorder.

The food at Koa was great, as was the atmosphere. Since it was late on Labor Day, it wasn’t busy at all, so our service was extra attentive.

I see the potential for something more with Phil. After dinner we exchanged numbers before parting ways. Hopefully, we’ll hang out again soon.
