Cowboys’ Bryant breaks foot

- By BART HUBBUCH

ARLINGTON, Texas — Their 2726 comeback victory over the Giants Sunday was a costly one for the Cowboys.

AllPro wide receiver Dez Bryant, fresh off a rich new contract extension, is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks after fracturing his right foot during the second half.

Bryant will need a pin surgically inserted into the foot, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters after the game that the team will know more about Bryant’s timetable after that procedure.

Despite speculation all week Tom Coughlin would go with Cooper Taylor at strong safety opposite rookie free safety Landon Collins, veteran Brandon Meriweather got the start instead.

Not only did the Giants pick Meriweather over Taylor, but Taylor wasn’t even activated for the game despite being listed as the starter on the official pregame flipcard. Taylor instead was a healthy scratch.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ injury replacements Sunday night were wide re ceiver Rueben Randle (for Victor Cruz) and middle linebacker Uani Unga (for Jon Beason).

Unga had an interception off a tipped Tony Romo pass in the second quarter that the Giants converted into a Josh Brown field goal.

Despite an unseasonably cool Texas night with temperatures in the 70s, the Cowboys opted to go with the roof and doors closed completely at AT&T Stadium.

Dallas is just 1613 in the regular season with the roof closed since its palatial building was opened in 2009.

The Giants wore an “ATM” patch on their jerseys (for Ann Mara) and a No. 16 decal on their helmets for the late Frank Gifford on Sunday night and will continue to do both the rest of the season.

The Giants could have used the extra passrush help, but rookie defensive end Owa Odighizuwa wasn’t able to go because of a lingering sore foot that kept him from making his NFL debut.

Odighizuwa sat out practice Thursday with the injury and was listed as limited in Friday’s “recovery day” simulation.
