IN IPHONE HEAVEN

13M+ prayers to be answered for 6s adorers

Not even the Pope can derail opening weekend for the new iPhone.

Apple will likely sell between 13 million and 15 million units of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus worldwide when it debuts this weekend — an increase of 30 to 50 percent from last year’s initial release, according to a datadriven prediction by Foursquare.

That’s despite concerns that this week’s visit by Pope Francis could disrupt business at key locations in the Big Apple, which last year had three of the four topselling venues in the US, according to the local search app.

“The rumor is that the deliveries of preorder phones might be impacted,” Foursquare operating chief Jeff Glueck told The Post, referring to warnings by UPS and other carriers that the Pope’s visit could disrupt supplies to some New York stores.

“But I think the consumer excitement globally will outweigh any difficulties in New York City getting to the Apple stores.”

Last year, Apple’s flagship on Market Street in San Francisco grabbed the top spot for openingweekend sales of the iPhone 6. But New York’s Fifth Avenue, West 14th Street and Soho locations took second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Foursquare’s data, how ever, are compiled from shoppers at Apple stores across 100 countries, including the crucial Chinese market. (Online sales and sales at other retailers and wireless carriers aren’t included.)

Worldwide, recent in creases in foot traffic suggest that sales this weekend will jump 360 percent above the averages seen over the past 12 weeks, according to Glueck.

Preorder sales out of China have looked particularly strong, FBR & Co. an alyst Daniel Ives said this week. He now predicts Apple will sell 77 million iPhones in its December quarter, up from the “Herculeanlike” sales it notched a year earlier.

Indeed, last year’s tally of 74.5 million iPhones sold during the holidays fueled a quarterly profit of $18 billion — the biggest in corporate history.

The new iPhone will enjoy “further tailwinds” from the new carrier plan that gives yearly upgrades, Ives said.
