Comic tells jokes pantsless
IN case doing a standup act consisting largely of rape jokes wasn’t enough, Adrienne Truscott decided to do it wearing only pumps and a denim top.
“It was important to me that I’m not just naked,” she tells The Post. “I’m just not wearing pants, and exposing the part that’s presumably the most vulnerable to society.”
Before turning to standup with “Adrienne Truscott’s Asking for It — A OneLady Rape About Comedy Starring Her P y and Little Else!,” the performer was bestknown as a dancer/choreographer and a member of the acrobatic/burlesque duo the Wau Wau Sisters. But the 30something Truscott — a longtime fan of “The Carol Burnett Show,” Lily Tomlin and Richard Pryor — turned to standup to speak some uncomfortable truths.
And she found that she liked where she was doing it: “Comedy clubs are one of the places where you can do your smartest material to the broadest collection of society.”
Truscott toured her show worldwide for two years. Considering the subject matter and her “non-costume,” that meant a lot of salon visits.
“It’s very hard to not have a lady just want to wax everything off your body,” she muses. “I’m not 10, so, no, thank you.”
She’s also had to figure out how to handle hecklers.
“They forget that any comic has thought about this moment longer than they have — and in my case, it’s a lot,” she says. “I just didn’t want to be the chick standing onstage without pants and without a comeback.”
