SodaStream’s New Job Offer

-

The Israeli company SodaStream is determined to do good. The wackos of the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, aka BDS, forced the firm to lay off most of its Palestinian workforce, but now CEO Daniel Birnbaum is trying to help Syrian refugees — with an offer of 1,000 jobs at his plant.

“As a son of a Holocaust survivor, I refuse to stand by and observe this human tragedy unfold right across our border,” he said.

Birnbaum has enlisted the help of the nearby Bedouin town of Rahat, where Mayor Talal alKrewnawi says he’ll happily host 1,000 refugees and their families.

The offer is intended as pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has ruled out taking in any Syrian refugees.

“Israel is not indifferent to the human tragedy of the refugees from Syria and Africa,” Netanyahu said Sept. 6. “We have already devotedly cared for approximately 1,000 wounded from the fighting in Syria. But Israel is a small country, a very small country that lacks demographic and geographic depth.”

And, of course, most Arab states are also refusing to admit folks fleeing Syria’s wars.

Here’s an idea: Since the BDS crew claims to be a humanitarian bunch standing up for beleaguered Palestinians, why don’t they drop their Israelbashing for a while and find a way to help the farmorebeleaguered Syrian refugees?
