GOLF: Spieth leads Tour Championsh­ip Jordan Spieth already has the best year in golf. He’s one round away from having the richest year in golf history.

Spieth battled through a tough, rainy Saturday at the Tour Championsh­ip in Atlanta, and overtook Henrik Stenson with a 2under 68. The Masters and U.S. Open champion saved par with a 20foot putt on the 16th hole and took the lead for the first time with a 20foot birdie on the 18th.

Stenson made three bogeys on the back nine for a 72 and was one shot behind.

The FedEx Cup finale is Sunday, and it was shaping up as a big one. Rickie Fowler shot a 67, the best score of the third round, and was four shots back. If any of them win, they get the $10 million bonus.

In Bad Griesbach, Germany, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand carded a 7under 64 to take a onestroke lead after the third round of the European Open.

Jaidee had eight birdies and a bogey to add to his two rounds of 68. He climbed 14 places for a 13under total of 200 in southeaste­rn Germany. SOCCER: Messi out 7 to 8 weeks

Barcelona faces two long months without Lionel Messi after its star forward tore a ligament in his left knee during the defending champion’s Spanish league match against Las Palmas in Barcelona, Spain.

The Catalan club confirmed the injury after Messi had tests at a nearby Barcelona hospital. Barcelona said it expects Messi to be out “seven to eight weeks.”

Messi went down after colliding with Las Palmas defender Pedro Bigas in the third minute.

In England, Manchester clubs traded places at the top of the Premier League, after Machester United beat Sunderland 30 and early pacesetter Manchester City slipped to second after being thrashed 41 at Tottenham. NFL: ’Hawks activate Chancellor

The Seahawks activated star safety Kam Chancellor and waived safety Dion Bailey, a day before their game against the Bears.

Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy Jr. had lower back surgery Friday and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks.

The Bulls acknowledg­e in a statement the timing of the operation was “unfortunat­e” with practices starting next week. They say he experience­d occasional discomfort over the summer that worsened recently, and “conservati­ve measures” of treatment failed.

In Alcaniz, Spain, Marc Marquez broke his own track record to take pole position at the Aragon MotoGP.

The Spaniard bettered his own record at the 5.1kilometer (3.1mile) MotorLand circuit by steering his Honda around in 1 minute, 46.635 seconds for his seventh pole of the season and 29th topcategor­y career pole.
