Princeton shows found art
FEDERICO Castelluccio — the actor who played Italian assassin Furio on “The Sopranos” — was spotted strolling Princeton’s campus this week. The thespian’s also a Baroque Europeanart expert: Page Six exclusively reported last year that Castelluccio discovered a longlost 1630s painting of St. Sebastian by artist Guercino. After Castelluccio and a partner paid about $70,000 for the work at a German auction, its value is being estimated as high as $10 million. The work is making its US debut hanging at the Princeton University Art Museum, and Castelluccio was invited to visit the school for an oncamera interview about his discovery. We hear Castelluccio’s signed with a literary agent — Greenburger Associates’ Matt Bialer — and is penning a book about his discovery, “The Master’s Piece: Uncovering the Secrets of a Lost Baroque Treasure.” Castelluccio spotted the work erroneously thought by a Frankfurt dealer to be an “18thcentury Italian holy painting.” He then had it restored and authenticated by experts from the Met. After its restoration, it was shown in Turin, Italy.
