Parting shot by Boehner

-

House Speaker John Boehner warned Sunday against “false prophets” in the GOP deciding his replacement once he leaves Congress Oct. 30.

Boehner, who announced his resignation a day after Pope Francis visited Congress, choked up throughout an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and vowed to keep the government open for business in the final weeks of his term.

“The Bible says beware of false prophets,” he said. “There are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done.

“We have got groups here in town, members of the House and Senate here in town, who whip people into a frenzy believing they can accomplish things that they know, they know are never going to happen,” he added.

Boehner promised to ensure the new leader isn’t left with a “dirty barn,” and said Congress would set up a committee to investigate “horrific videos” from Planned Parenthood clinics around the country.

Hardline conservatives have vowed to to shut down the government unless federal funds for the group are cut off.

On that note, Boehner called Texas Sen. Ted Cruz a “jackass.”

Donald Trump hailed Boehner’s resignation.

“Someone else will come in and maybe they’ll have a tougher attitude,” he said Friday. Aaron Short
