JETS BLITZ

- by Bart Hubbuch

HERO

Darren Sproles came through when the previously winless Eagles needed someone to save their season, providing the eventual difference all in the second quarter with an 89-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 1-yard scoring run.

ZERO The Jets got behind 24-0 in the first half, which meant having to rely on

Ryan Fitzpatrick’s arm. That’s rarely a formula for success, and Sunday was no exception as Fitzpatrick was intercepted three times and faced questions about his job security afterward.

UNSUNG HERO

Eagles rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks, whose big hit on Tony Romo in Week 2 knocked Romo out for months, looks like a rising star. The third-rounder from Texas had a team-high 10 tackles to go along with an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

KEY STAT

123 Yards rushing by the Eagles. Philly, which came into the game with 70 rushing yards — total — in the first two games, sat reigning NFL Offensive MVP DeMarco Murray because of a hamstring injury and ended up with a big effort by backups Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles. Go figure.
