Cop hit over gun at kids

- Aaron Feis

An NYPD captain who drew his gun on two boys as they played an innocent game of tag in Brooklyn two years ago will lose 30 days of paid vacation as punishment.

Capt. Brian McCaughey took a deal in which he pleaded guilty before the Civilian Complaint Review Board to improper force, abuse of authority and discourtesy charges for the Sept. 13, 2013, incident in BedfordStuyvesant.

McCaughey drew his weapon on 12yearold Jahniel Hinds and 13yearold Kasean Smalls. He and other officers were responding to a report of an officer in need of backup near Quincy Street.

“Get on the ground, motherf ker,” McCaughey allegedly screamed after pulling his gun on Kasean after Jahniel ran down the street as part of their game of tag.

“I got on the ground. I didn’t resist or anything,” Kasean, now 15, recalled after McCaughey entered the plea at One Police Plaza.

“I was nervous. I was just hoping that anything didn’t go bad.”

Jahniel’s mother, Corinia Sivers, praised McCaughey for admitting his guilt.

“He was the only one that stood up and took the blame,” Sivers said.
