Tapped for Lynch post
President Obama has nominated Robert Capers to take Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s old post as Brooklyn US attorney.
Capers (inset) is a senior litigation counsel in the publicintegrity section of the Eastern District of New York, where he would be US attorney if confirmed.
A Bronx native, he is an NYU graduate and received his law degree from Albany Law School.
Capers got a recommendation for the job from Sen. Charles Schumer, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which handles the confirmation hearings of US attorney nominees.
“Capers is in the mold of Loretta Lynch — really smart, hardworking, nose to the grindstone; not flashy but gets the job done and gets it done superbly,” Schumer said in a statement.
The Eastern District is known for prosecuting terrorism and publiccorruption cases, and sometimes competes with Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara’s office.
