9/11 wall vandalized

A teen vandalized a 9/11 memorial in Coney Island on Sunday, scrawling letters across it in orange spray paint, cops said.

The 15yearold boy spelled out “JD SMD” just before 4 p.m. on the lawenforcement panel of the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance at MCU Park. A witness pointed him out to cops, who chased him and arrested him outside the ballpark. He was charged early Monday morning with criminal mischief as a juvenile.

Visitors to the memorial Sunday night were saddened by the act.

“I think it’s very horrible,” said J.C. Webb, 48, a custodian who was working at the World Trade Center on 9/11. “For people to come out here and deface property like that. It’s a shame.”

Freyda Markow, a local resident who volunteered with Red Cross after 9/11, was appalled.

“It is very upsetting to us. It’s heartbreaking. Last year, around the same time, they did something,” Markow said.

On Oct. 17 of last year, homeless man Elliot Baez, 58, was charged with criminal mischief for defacing the wall. Khristina Narizhnaya
