Airstrike kills Qaeda bigwig

-

WASHINGTON — A USled coalition airstrike has killed Sanafi alNasr, a Saudi citizen and the leading financier for al Qaeda and its Khorasan Group offshoot, the Pentagon said on Sunday.

AlNasr, who had organized routes for new recruits to travel from Pakistan to Syria through Turkey, was killed in an airstrike on Thursday in northwest Syria, according to the Pentagon.

AlNasr is the fifth senior Khorasan Group leader killed in the last four months, the Pentagon said. Officials have described Khorasan as a particularly menacing faction of militants who have been using their sanctuary in Syria to try to organize plots to attack US and other Western targets.
