Charging Bowe Bergdahl
I’ve been telling my military friends for months that Bowe Bergdahl would not only not be tried by a military courtmartial, but he’ll be rewarded for his sins in a combat zone (“The CoverUp,” Betsy McCaughey, PostOpinion, Oct. 14).
This bum is going to collect almost $300,000 in back pay, keep his promotion to sergeant and be allowed to leave the Army with a medical or honorable discharge. I bet he’ll receive a pension and full military benefits for life.
All of this happened because the brass were afraid of repercussions to their own military careers.
I can’t tell you how many millions of us proud veterans will protest this travesty if it prevails.
And to the guys in his platoon, I’m sorry. Donald Havenick

If the military prosecutors reduce the charges against Bergdahl — who left his post, endangering his fellow soldiers, and whose release required freeing five highlevel terrorists — they’ll tarnish the meaning of the Soldiers Code.
Specifically, the part of the code that says: “I will honor my country, the Army, my unit and fellow soldiers by living the Army values.” Robert Neglia

The Army’s reported preliminary recommendation to let Bergdahl walk free after his desertion is a slap in the face to all the wounded warriors and veterans who served honorably in Afghanistan and Iraq.
This predictable move further reflects President Obama’s politicization of the armed forces. James Hyland
