Thursday Night Football: Should It Be Ejected?

THE ISSUE: Whether an additional night of pro-football on Thursdays puts too much of a burden on wives.

Karol Markowicz hits the nail on the head about the growth of nightly NFL football (“A Good Wife’s Lament,” PostOpinion, Oct. 19).

The Post’s sports writer Phil Mushnick could help her understand that it’s nothing personal, just business. These days, it’s all about the money, whether moving a kidfriendly day game to evening or providing a guest box to a player’s family.

New York Jet Darrelle Revis and his family summed up the NFL on “60 Minutes” Sunday night: “It’s business, just business.”

I turn the game on and turn it off, frequently in the midst of “exciting” games. Peter Flierl

Markowicz seems like an understanding football wife. But one of my pet peeves is that the same wives who want hubby to accompany them to antique shows or shopping or similar events take absolutely no interest in football.

If more did, they’d see the excitement and human drama prevalent in sports and have another interest to enjoy with their spouse.

OK, I get it, Markowicz says enough with the Thursday night football.

And she’s probably right. The players need time to heal from the last game. The weekend spacing of games seems like a better fit, leaving the fans with something to look forward to.

But she’s a little too quick in complimenting herself as the good wife for preparing the 20 or so dishes her husband demands for his endzone zoneout.

She lets her man get away with this escape from his routine while her routine gets more burdened. Her enabling permits the NFL market to expand at the expense of people’s domestic relations and preparation for their next workday.

I love football, and I agree that America doesn’t need Thursday night football — but, really now, she should put her foot down on her luxuriating husband.
