Police to get aid from $uze

As the city grapples with a rising number off murders and rapes, NYPD cops will be allowed to take paid time off work to attend a seminar about personal finance.

Department brass asked TV motivational speaker and financial guru Suze Orman to speak to cops about how to manage their money at NYPD headquarters in Manhattan on Nov. 6, sources told The Post on Monday.

The 6 p.m. event will be held in the auditorium at One Police Plaza, and officers who are on the clock can come on the taxpayers’ dime. Cops simply book a reservation, and their commanding officers will then be notified that they will be attending, sources said.

“It’s a waste of time,” one police source said. “It takes us off the street. It has nothing to do with what we do.”

Another source said, “I mean, it’s not the worst thing if they want to help cops with their finances. But where’s this all coming from now?

“I just get the feeling that this is all part of Bratton’s celebrity network,” the source said, referring to Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, whose department also hosted a gethealthy information session by TV’s Dr. Oz this month.

Orman is freely volunteering her time to help the police, a rep said. “I want you to know this is a probono talk about personal finance,” the spokeswoman told The Post. “It benefits everyone to learn about their money, and Suze is really looking forward to this talk.”

The seminars come as murders in the city are up by 7.2 percent so far this year. Rapes have increased 5.1 percent, NYPD data show.
