Fielding a new name

-

HORACE Mann prep school — still trying to get past the sex abuse scandal uncovered in 2012 — has stripped the name of a former headmaster from its athletic field.

R. Inslee Clark Jr. was at the helm of the school at the height of the decadeslong abuse of 64 students by 22 faculty and staff.

The field will now be called Alumni Field.

Alumni include Jack Kerouac, Robert Caro and Eliot Spitzer (inset).

Doug Henderson, another alumnus, who lobbied for the change, told me, “I spent six of the best years of my life att Horace Mann. Having alumni vote on the renaming, and then having the school approve it, is a positive thing. This was the darkest of chapters in the lives of many. The renaming of the field is not a panacea, but a step in the right direction.”
