Cowboys may unleash new threat at RB

-

As the Cowboys come off a bye heading into Week 7, changes are anticipated as Dallas tries to jump-start a sagging offense. A quarterback switch already has been announced, as journeyman Matt Cassel will take over for Brandon Weeden against the Giants. the ’Boys are hopeful Dez Bryant can return from a foot injury as soon as this week, but if not, Cassel at least can ensure Bryant posts decent numbers upon his return. that seemed much less possible with Weeden in the lineup.

the other change might come at running back, as reports surfaced during the bye that the Cowboys may consider giving Christine Michael a more prominent role. Joseph Randle has not been awful, but outside of one big half in Week 3, he has only been adequate. Michael, who was acquired in early september from seattle, had only 52 regular-season carries in his first two pro campaigns. Yet he always has elicited sleeper buzz because of his considerable talent level. Michael always has been regarded as a very promising blend of power running and speed.

In 2014, Michael was a popular preseason sleeper pick, as some fantasy analysts were predicting a decline season for Marshawn Lynch. But that scenario never came to be, and Michael fell out of favor as an enigma who could never pick up seattle’s zone-blocking style of running. Yet the trade to Dallas made sense, as Michael can simply roll through holes created by a stronger offensive line rather than be asked to anticipate where holes might develop behind lesser blocking.

Michael is a load to tackle, one who can motor into and sometimes through the second level when he picks up steam. He also could be the ideal short-yardage runner for the Cowboys. He will get the opportunity to at least share carries with Randle in the shorter-term, and can push mediocre veteran Darren McFadden out of the way as long as he runs with the opportunity.

We’ve been backing Michael as a nifty fantasy stash here in the Post and on FNTSY sports Network since Dallas made the move to get him. Hopefully you stashed Michael, who can now make the most of a real chance in his home state. If you didn’t, bid aggressively on him with FAAB dollars or make him your top priority. He has the talent and potential to inject more life into an offense that needs it pretty badly.
