Hosley starts in Prince’s place

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

PHILADELPHIA — Cornerback Jayron Hosley made his first start this season against the Redskins, replacing Dominique RodgersCromartie, who missed that game with a concussion. Hosley’s second start this season was Monday night in the Giants’ 277 loss to the Eagles, subbing for Prince Amukamara, who will miss two to four weeks with a partially torn pectoral muscle.

Hosley was given a new lease on his NFL life this season, with a new defensive coordinator (Steve Spagnuolo) and a new cornerbacks coach (Tim Wal ton) allowing him to have a clean slate after a rough few years.

“Playing for a guy who believes in you, Coach Spags and Coach Walton, they told me that since Day 1, that’s something I carry with me,’’ Hosley said. “It means nothing if you don’t have that same confidence in yourself and believe in yourself as well, but it definitely helps when you got coaches behind you.’’

Odell Beckham Jr.’ s second NFL game came last season against the Ea gles at Lincoln Financial Field, and as he recalls, it was everything he heard it would be.

“All I can really remember is what everybody was telling me about how the GiantsPhilly game always is,’’ Beckham said. “It was a fun experience to go down there, not fun with the result of the game, but that atmosphere was very nice. It was loud.’’

Asked how he was treated by the Eagles fans, Beckham said, “They treat you like royalty.’’

As for what advice he might give to a rookie such as Landon Collins in his first game at the Linc, Beckham added “Play ball, it’s not really much you can do. Fans cheer, the fans yell, either way it goes, it’s all noise, just block it out and play football.’’

Eagles pintsized running back Darren Sproles often is described as a “pain in the neck’’ because of his ability to make huge plays in the passing game and generally be almost uncatchable at times. Spagnuolo, who was with the Saints when Sproles was there, doesn’t see it that way.

“You want to know something about Sproles? He’s probably one of the greatest guys I’ve worked with,’’ Spagnuolo said.
