Cuomo’s bum jeer

Blasts de Blasio’s handling of homeless

Gov. Cuomo tore into the city’s handling of the homeless crisis Tuesday, saying that better “management” by the de Blasio administration was needed instead of just “throwing more money at the problem.”

“It hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves, in my opinion,” Cuomo said in Brooklyn.

“New York state is spending a billion dollars on homelessness in New York City. So it’s not the money . . . I think it’s more of a question of the intelligence and the management.”

Cuomo also said he agrees with comments that Police Commissioner Bill Bratton made regarding homelessness.

“[He] said last week there was a growing problem, it should’ve been acknowledged. He was exactly right,” Cuomo said.

“How come we have this problem now, and we didn’t have it two years ago, three years ago? . . . What changed? We haven’t been dealing with it effectively,” Cuomo said. “It’s more managing the city properly, efficiently, effectively, smartly — especially on this issue that causes so much pain . . . Throwing more money at the problem is not always the answer.”

A couple of hours later, de Blasio — who claims he inherited a growing homeless population from Mike Bloomberg — responded to Cuomo’s jabs during a press conference.

“He obviously isn’t looking at the facts,” the mayor said.

“In fact, resources matter a lot in addressing this problem. They certainly matter in terms of creating the supportive housing we need to get out of this problem in the long term.”
