NFL: Peyton out at least 2 weeks
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will miss at least the next two weeks after consulting with a foot specialist who put him in a walking boot. Manning sought a second opinion for a torn plantar fascia in his left foot from renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr.
Robert Anderson in North Carolina on Monday. The Broncos are expected to work
out former Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder on Wednesday.
Brett Favre, Terrell Owens and Alan Faneca are semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. The group of 25 semifinalists also includes longtime Jets center Kevin Mawae, in his second year of eligibility.
Quincy Monk, a former Giants linebacker, died Tuesday after a brief battle with adenocarcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer. Monk was 36. A seventhround draft pick in 2002 out of North Carolina, Monk played two years for the Giants, appearing in 13 games. — Paul Schwartz
Bears running back Matt Forte (knee) all but confirmed he will suit up Thursday at Green Bay. Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes is pleading not guilty to abusing his wife at a Hawaii resort. Maui police arrested the former Met after an Oct. 31 argument with his wife that allegedly turned physical at the Four Seasons Resort. Reyes didn’t attend his arraignment Tuesday on Maui.

SOCCER: Marsch MLS’s top coach
Red Bulls manager Jesse Marsch was named MLS Coach of the Year on Tuesday, becoming the first New York coach to win the award. The Red Bulls went 18106 in Marsch’s debut campaign, for 60 points and MLS’s best record. — Brian Lewis
