A man slept in his bed just feet away as a burglar creepily crawled on all fours into the bedroom of a Queens house early Wednesday, surveillance footage shows.
A hidden bedroom camera captured the prowler who slipped into the home on 33rd Avenue near Union Street in Flushing at about 2:20 a.m. and rummaged around the house, police said.
Surveillance video outside the home first shows the backpackwearing intruder casually walking up toward the private house.
The bedroom camera then shows the crook lightly stepping into the room.
After a few steps, the thief drops to his hands and knees and crawls on the floor while holding what appears to be a knife in his mouth, the video released by police shows.
Then the criminal reaches up to the top of the dresser nearby and snags a Samsung S6 cellphone.
The burglar checks out the swiped cellphone in his hands before the video, which was released by police, ends.
The 42yearold victim’s housemate told The Post on Friday that the two have taken extra precautions since the breakin.
“He got in through the back door, which was unlocked,” said the housemate, adding that they used to feel “very safe in this neighborhood.”
The housemate, who did not want to identify himself by name, added that now “we are more alert, more safe. Every night we check the windows and the doors. As soon as it gets dark, we make sure everything is locked and closed.”
Before the intruder was able to make his getaway, he roused the victim who was peacefully sleeping in his bed.
The homeowner then awoke with a jolt, and the spooked thief fled.
The victim wasn’t injured during the runin.
“We’ve learned a lesson,” said the housemate. “It’s a bad thing that has turned into a good thing.”
The suspect, who wore a black cap bearing the word “diamond” in red and white lettering, was described as 6foot2 and 200 pounds, police said.
