O’s my! Davis offered $150M to stay with Birds

-

UNDER owner Peter Angelos, the Orioles have been among the majors’ most financially cautious teams, particularly when it comes to investing in free agents.

But Angelos is said to like Chris Davis so much he has deviated from tradition to involve himself in negotiations. There were multiple reports Baltimore offered the lefty slugger seven years at $150 million.

The Orioles also were engaging Upton, concerned their offer to Davis would not be enough and/ or Davis might take too long to decide and the market could begin drying up while they wait.

In his eighth trade since taking over as general manager after last season, Seattle’s hyperactive Jerry Dipoto obtained Adam Lind from the Brewers for three lowlevel minor league pitchers.

Dipoto already had dealt away his two holdover first basemen — Logan Morrison and Mark Trumbo. Lind will now fill that role.

New Brewers general manager David Stearns thought big picture in his rebuilding, obtaining three righties who are not yet 20 — Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera and Freddy Peralta.

In a continuing focus on upgrading the bullpen, the A’s reached a twoyear, $10 million agreement with John Axford.

Earlier this offseason, Oakland made trades to obtain Liam Hendricks and Marc Rzepczynski.
