Melo plays through ankle sprain
Carmelo Anthony said he suffered a sprained left ankle late in the third quarter of the Knicks’ 10799 loss to the Magic after getting entangled with teammate Robin Lopez.
Anthony played on, grimaced a lot and finished with 23 points and six assists, admitting he was looking to pass the ball more in the final period.
After receiving treatment following the game, Anthony didn’t guarantee he would take the court at Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday against LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Anthony had a very nice shooting night Monday, with all types of jumpers falling for him. He made 10 of17 shots, including 2of3 3pointers
Anthony had the leg worked on while he sat on the bench during timeouts.
Pressed on his availability versus Cleveland, Anthony said: “Monday is not even over with. As of right now, I’ll be playing.’’
Heat president Pat Riley has experienced countless moments in a HallofFame career and may not be done in Miami as he tries for a 10th championship ring. But the former Lakers and Knicks head coach counts his inability to guide Patrick Ewing to his only NBA championship as possibly his biggest failure.
In MSG Network’s new special dealing with the 1994 playoffs in which the Knicks advanced to The Finals, Riley says in excerpts obtained by The Post: “Patrick was a guy that gave everything he could give to that city to try to win a championship. It’s probably one of the biggest disappointments had in my life not being able to give them enough in Games 6 and 7 when we were in Houston, so Patrick could’ve gotten his first championship.”
The Knicks were beaten by the Rockets in 1994 in seven games after holding a 32 lead when the series returned to Houston. Wednesday’s special is the kickoff to the final 10 episodes of “The Garden’s Defining Moments” — a 20part series.
Derrick Williams, asked about the police investigation into the theft of $750,000 in jewelry by two women he brought to his home, said he was “not going to answer any questions about that.”
