Williams still mum on jewelry robbery
Knicks coach Derek Fisher said forward Derrick Williams has avoided addressing a police investigation into a latenight robbery in which two women he just met allegedly stole $750,000 worth of jewelry from his Manhattan apartment.
“Derrick hasn’t really chosen to talk about it to allow it to be any distraction,’’ Fisher said. “I don’t know why I need to be [talking about it].’’
The Post reported Williams was out at a nightclub early Saturday morning after the Knicks had taken a train back from Philadelphia. The Knicks had a Saturday night game slated against the Bulls at the Garden.
Fisher was asked if the early Saturday morning carousing was appropriate in the midst of a backtoback set of games.
“I don’t really have to get into our policies of what you can and can’t do,’’ Fisher said. “We don’t have a curfew like in the NFL or other sports do on certain nights. It’s an unfortunate incident. Derrick hasn’t really spoken about it. It’s very unfortunate.’’
Williams said following Monday’s loss to Orlando after playing just 10 minutes: “I’m not going to answer any questions about that — just no comment.”
Kristaps Porzingis, stuck in a 20of69 shooting funk that may have led to his fourthquarter benching against Orlando, did not make himself available to reporters after Tuesday’s practice. Carmelo Anthony said the rookie is not down on himself.
“We’re kind of overanalyzing,’’ Anthony said. “He’s not shooting the basketball well but still getting 10 points, three, four blocks. As far as making shots that comes and goes. We all know he can shoot. Those shots just aren’t going in. He’s a very levelheaded kid, not with a lot of ups and downs.” Fisher said it’s possible forward Kyle O’Quinn returns after missing the Orlando loss with an ankle sprain. The Knicks missed O’Quinn Monday as the Magic scored 52 points in the paint. … . Cleveland guard Kyrie Irving (knee) will play his second game after making his season debut Sunday.
