Banned Santa returns to PS

Santa brought toys and holiday cheer on Wednesday to Brooklyn’s PS 169 — where the politically correct grinch of a principal had tried to ban a Christmas celebration before she was overruled by school officials.

Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (DBrooklyn) and businessman Don Peebles pitched in to make the holiday fest happen after an exclusive report in The Post that Principal Eujin Jaela Kim had canceled the Sunset Park elementary school’s Christmas celebration.

“I was talking to Assemblyman Ortiz about the article in The Post. He said they were looking to raise money and buy toys, and I said, ‘What can I do to help, to be able to support our kids?’ So I made a donation,” said Peebles, a possible future mayoral candidate.

“I think it’s important that we celebrate and respect all cultures, and we can’t celebrate all cultures by excluding one,” he added.

Ortiz, who donned a Santa costume and delivered teddy bears and gift bags to about 260 students, said he was grati fied the tradition would carry on.

“This is something that every child, no matter where we come from, we are expecting to have and to enjoy,” he told The Post.

“I am happy to say that Santa, not only was here today, but that Santa will come back next year.”

PTA President Mimi Ferrer said the school is very diverse and all cultures are celebrated.

“There are many different cultures here, but we are a community. We are a family. That’s how we learn about each other and grow as a community,” she said.

She and other parents scrambled to pull the event together in just a week after Kim’s ban was overturned — and was still fuming at the principal’s original decision.

“I want a public apology to everyone because what she did was wrong. She has no business trying to come in and change our traditions in our community,” Ferrer said.
